lacerations on the outside of the little toe...

... are simply unpleasant when one has to spend all day from 9-4 in snug booties that invariably fill with sand, thereby scraping the wound further every time one moves the foot.
immersing it in salt water does not help much either.

another downside to Orpheus - mozzies and sandflies. I got a few bites on Lizard, but nowhere near as much as I've got right now, from just 5 days here.

took an off day today and went for a fun dive in the scientific zone, where the viz was only about 4m but there was heaps of fish and an entire field of Galaxea (a genus of coral). saw a turtle, a tiny little toby, sweetlips, nudibranchs etc, and took a hundred photos (and deleted probably half of them).
during our surface interval Denice took us over to see the resort, from a great distance away of course as we wouldn't want to spoil the view of the $1000-per-night guests would we? then we went to the mangrove-y area next to the beach at Pioneer Bay and waded into the ankle-deep water admiring the baby blacktip reef sharks, shovelnose ray and sting rays. i crouched in the water for ages with my camera poised underwater and Pete standing as lookout, hoping to take a money shot of one of the sharks, but they wouldn't come close enough.
second dive was a work dive - another 50m belt transect. counted lots more of our species this time.
